About HSJAA & High School Fishing

One of the fastest growing youth related movements across the country are High School fishing clubs!

Hook Spit Junior Angler Association, is leading the way to develop High School Fishing Clubs on The Gulf Coast for clubs to compete in Saltwater Tournaments for scholarship money!

So what is HSJAA? The Hook Spit Junior Angler Association (HSJAA) is a 501c3 non-profit organization formed to promote health and education through the sport of fishing. HSJAA is dedicated to providing student anglers of all ages the opportunity to compete competitively for not only saltwater species but bass fishing as well! HSJAA also provides fishing camps, seminars, and family fishing events throughout the year as well. Our mission is to get the youth of our country off the couch and video game consoles, and introduce them to the sport of fishing and what the great outdoors has to offer!

Why participate with HSJAA? HSJAA is comprised of a network of professional fishermen from the entire Texas Gulf Coast. We are driven to produce a series of tournaments for student anglers to compete for high level scholarship funds and to learn the sport of fishing from every angle!

What’s the cost? FREE! HSJAA is no longer built around a membership. All tournaments and events are open to the public and subject to their individual entry fees.

  • My son/daughter want to join HSJAA what do we need to do?

HSJAA Tournaments, Events, and Camps are open to the public. Simply browse through our upcoming Tournaments, Events, and Camps and register your junior angler to participate. There are NO Membership Fees.

  • My school is interested in starting a fishing club, what do we need to do?

HSJAA would recommend getting 5 or more students together and reach out to a coach or teacher who is willing to be the faculty advisor for your club and start meeting in the afternoons. Once you have a large enough group, contact the principle about getting your club under the schools organization list to start reaching out to the community for support to help fund your clubs event, gear and travel expenses.

  • Are a boat and captain provided by HSJAA for each event?

Unfortunately not. HSJAA does not provide boats or captains for any of our fishing tournaments. We do however have a large group of people who will allow other student anglers to fish with them, or we have a network of professional guides for hire. Just simply let us know how we can help and we will point you in the right direction to get you fishing info@hsjaa.com

  • My son/daughter want to participate in an HSJAA event, tournament, or camp. What are the age requirements for each?

HSJAA Tournaments, Events, and Camps are all open to anglers 17 and under and attending grade school (If a student turns 18 during the previous school year they will still be able to participate in all HSJAA tournaments and events until the start of the next school year). In addition to the age requirements junior anglers are also required to be passing all of their classes. A birth certificate and report card may be requested by HSJAA board members for verification purposes. For more specific details about age requirements please read the Rules and Regulations for the tournament, event, or camp you are interested in attending.

  • My son/daughter want to participate in HSJAA events, tournaments, or camps. Where are you hosting these events?

Currently HSJAA is only hosting events on the Texas Gulf Coast. This includes cities such as Galveston, Matagorda, Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, and Sabine Pass. Our intention is to continue to grow and develop HSJAA so that junior anglers across the country can participate in our tournaments, events, and camps. If there is interest in an area outside of those mentioned above please contact us with specific information so that we can look at expanding into that area.

  • How can we help support HSJAA?

You can contact us anytime about donations and/or sponsorships for any and all of the HSJAA programs we have available. Simply send us an email and we will be glad to help info@hsjaa.com
