The season started out a little rough for The HSJAA Speckled Trout Shootout Tournament series! We planned on starting the season on January 22nd 2017, but mother nature had other plans, with wind gust up to 55 mph HSJAA decided to postpone the tournament to the following Saturday January 28th. With 52 anglers competing for over $7000 in cash prizes and beautiful fishing conditions, the event well exceeded our expectations! The tournament was held a Jackie’s Brickhouse in Kemah Texas with open arms! Jackie and John owners of Jackie’s Brickhouse not only allowed us to hold the tournament at their facility, they donated another $1000 to the live bait division tournament pot, allowing HSJAA to pay the anglers even more money than expected!
This week Chris Coulter president of Chris’s Marine in Aransas Pass, Texas contacted HSJAA to see how they could support HSJAA for the 2017 tournament season. After a brief explanation from our tournament team and directors Mr. Coulter announced he would donate a boat, motor and trailer package! With much appreciation HSJAA accepted the boat package, and will be using it for a raffle item to raise funds for our tournament payouts for the 2017 season!
Cooper Staudt (student angler from Cyrpresswood Fishing Team and member of HSJAA) asked if HSJAA would be interested in hosting a Flipping Contest at The Student Angler Federation State Championship. Cooper told HSJAA that he would conduct the event and thought it would bring a lot of attention to HSJAA. Well boy was he right! Over 200 Students competed in the contest and it was a great success! With the help of Hook Spit Performance Rods and Hook Spit Fishing Gear, Cooper was able to award the top 3 winners with the prizes to make the contest a little more interesting!
